It has been estimated that approximately half of all rosacea sufferers may appear to experience dry skin. With treatment, this dryness often eases along with disappearance of papules and pustules. To combat dry, flaky skin, use a moisturizer daily after cleansing and applying medication.
There are many factors that may lead to rosacea flare ups. According to national rosacea society, some factors are a lot more prominent that others. Here is a list below:
Common Factors that trigger rosacea:
Over 41 percent rosacea sufferers said that certain skin-care products aggravated their condition and one third of them believed certain cosmetics also caused rosacea flare-ups.
Here are a few tips on how to choose the right skincare products for rosacea sufferers:
1) Avoid common rosacea irritants.
Common skin irritants are alcohols, witch hazel, fragrances, menthol, peppermint, eucalyptus oil, and certain preservatives. Harsh exfoliating products should be avoided as well.
2) Use gentle and fragrance free cleansing products.
Avoid sodium lauryl sulfate/sodium laureth sulfate. These foaming agents are irritating and drying. Many fragrances may lead to contact dermatitis and need to be avoided.
3) Choose fragrance-free skin-care and makeup products.
As we mentioned earlier, fragrances cause allergic contact dermatitis. For anyone with sensitive skin (including those suffer from rosacea), it's important to use fragrance free skincare products.
4) Use a strong and non-greasy moisturizer daily.
A good fragrance-free moisturizer will hydrate dry and rough skin without clogging the pores. Petrolatum-containing creams are thick and yet may not sufficiently replenish water to dry skin. Pure plant oils can be soothing, however they tend to be greasy and are not the best choice for rosacea sufferer either.
