There are three products that may directly contribute to youthful and healthy looking skin: sunscreen, moisturizer, and cleanser.
An effective sunscreen provides UV protection, more specifically, broad spectrum protection. Only natural mineral (ZnO is a better choice) based sunscreens will achieve this. An increased amount of and most recent scientific studies have shown that our wrinkles are directly connected with sun light damages. So wearing sunscreen should be an essential part of daily skin care routine. Selecting an effective sunscreen that's most suitable for your skin may take more work than you anticipated.
All skin types, not just dry skin need skin hydration. An effective moisturizer should hydrate skin by replenishing water to the skin. There are moisturizers that appear to be "thick creams", but this term does not imply they are effective. A thick cream might be greasy and clog your pores. Thick creams with petrolatum may be contaminated with health concerning chemicals. A good moisturizer should be petrolatum free, and can replenish water to your skin and keep it supple. A simple test is to apply a thin layer of moisturizer on a small area of face, if in an hour or so, you feel that there is nothing there, it's probably not a good moisturizer! An effectively moisturizer like Michaderm's night moisturizer is capable of holding water in place for more than 24hrs. It comes from the unique design of this product, i.e. it's formula. That's why this product is so intensively moisturizing yet does not feel heavy, and it won't clog pores. An excellent moisturizer may also do more than hydrating your skin, it may also contain ingredients that help to combat UV related damages. Both vitamin C and vitamin E have been shown to repair UV damages to skin cell.
A cleanser should remove dirt, extra grease, bacteria, dead skin cells, but not an excessive amount of natural lipids that are crucial part of the skin barrier. A harsh cleanser may lead to dry, dull looking skin, and worse, it may even cause flaking, itching, and irritation. So go with a hypoallergenic cleanser for the best results.
Besides the three key factors mentioned above, other nutrients could play a significant role in maintaining healthy skin. WebMD published an article entitled "Nutrition for Healthy Skin". It suggested that several vitamins such as Vitamin C, E, B complex, A & K, minerals such as selenium, copper, zinc, and potent anti-oxidants may play an important role in maintaining healthy skin.
